When I first discovered Quinn, I didn't think that writing for their voice actors was an option. It was months after they opened the scriptwriter database before I sent anything in, and months later before I wrote something new and decided to pitch it directly to a VA.I've been a professional writer for around two decades, with a focus on creative nonfiction and journalism. I've also created content for social media, worked at magazines, provided storyboarding and scriptwriting services for corporate videos and TV. I've done voiceover work for some of the above.I have 3 novel manuscripts that I'll get back to some day, and 4 poetry chapbooks out in the wild.I am also with Under Covers Audio as a supporting sound editor. I worked on two podcasts over the pandemic and am self-taught.
On Scripts
My objective is to tell stories featuring older characters (above 35). As an Elder Xennial, I cannot see myself in stories intended for a target audience of 20-somethings, so I'm writing them myself.I do not write with specific VAs in mind (unless it is a commission). I do not choreograph sex scenes in detail. I prioritise the story and character development, and then see which VA might be a good fit. They are then free to adapt parts of the script into their vernacular, and make accommodations for their signature lines or moves without changing the plot or character dynamics.I avoid describing the physical attributes of the Speaker or Listener. My pet names tend to be minimal.I'm keen to work with VAs who are interested in stories with a build-up/slow burn, compelling characters, and healthy/open interactions. On Sound
During the pandemic, I started my own podcast as a means of teaching myself new skills (and because everyone and their aunt also started a podcast).Not long after, I joined a long-running, volunteer-run storytelling podcast as a sound and episode editor. This was where I discovered the joy of creating an auditory world to support spoken word and storytelling.I am self-taught, and use Audacity.You can hear some of my recent work at the Under Covers Audio Patreon or by checking my Portfolio.
